Open Triples League
Triples Curling is NEW to the Ponoka Curling Club and we are happy to play along side you in this new format!
It’s the rockin’ game’s iteration of the moment, Curling 3.0 if you will, tailor-made for fast-paced fun and physically distant safety in a COVID-19 pandemic environment.
In a typical six-end game of triples, everybody gets to call the shots, deliver the goods and sweep like crazy. Each member of a team will rotate through the three positions, playing two ends as lead, middle and skip. It’s a new-age democracy on ice. Every player also delivers two rocks per end, so the action is fast – and most games will wrap up in two hours or less.
It’s competitive too. Scores are doubled in the fifth and sixth ends, so no game should be too far out of reach for long. We don’t want anybody shaking hands after four ends. In fact, we don’t want anybody shaking hands at all.
And since only one person can sweep a delivered rock, according to the new rules from Curling Canada, triples curling is the perfect game for such a changed sporting landscape. One player delivers the rock, one player sweeps the rock and one player holds the broom and calls the line from the house.
Nobody will be left standing around, trying to look important as the stone glides onto the button.
This league is open to any member who wishes to play in a league with a social atmosphere. Get a few friends together and sign up for this fun and social league – it will be a great night out! This runs Thursday evenings starting October 29, 2020.

- This season we will be moving away from the Learn to Curl sessions. We will still coach your child, but in a game setting. Due to COVID-19 we are limited to a smaller amount of kids on the ice if we stayed with the Learn to Curl format. So to get as many kids curling as we could, we have changed to game format only. The kids will be required to follow the in-ice-markerings but still enjoying the game of curling.
- We will have to cap junior curling at 48 curlers this year.
- What do you need for curling? A clean pair of running shoes for ice use only. Warm comfortable clothing for on the ice. Your mask.
- Curlers, parents & spectators will be required to wear a mask into the Ponoka curling building. Curlers and coaches will be required to wear masks on the ice.
- Due to covid we will need to charge a fee for purchasing more equipment & sanitizing between users. If you have your own broom and shoes there will be no charge to you. If you are using the curling clubs broom and slider it will be a one time rental fee of $50. If you only need a broom, it is a one time rental fee of $25. If you only need a slider, it is a one time rental fee of $25.
- Registration Fee is $75 for the season.
- Other Fees: Optional weekend bonspiels. The club is hosting a Doubles Bonspiel your child could choose to play in, one U18 spiel and our one day Parent-Junior Spiel at the end of the season.
